Escalator Safety

Children at Watersheddings Primary School were challenged by Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre to design and create an eye catching poster that would educate people on how to use an escalator safely. Eleven entries were sent in from students at the school and the shopping centre have chosen a winner.

Deputy Head Teacher, Janet Scott says: “We were extremely excited to get involved with such a fantastic campaign that proved to be not only an educational activity for our students, but a creative and fun one too. We were very impressed with all of the designs that our pupils came up with and I want to congratulate Emma for her fantastic and very deserving winning entry. As always, it has been a pleasure working with Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre.”

All of the children at Watersheddings Primary School who submitted a poster into the competition were awarded with a certificate to congratulate their efforts. The children will be attending the Centre on Thursday 14th July to collect their certificate and their prize.

Mike Flanagan, Centre Manager, comments: “It was a hard decision picking just one winner but we were drawn to the bright and colourful design. We felt it included some very important health and safety points in an eye catching way and we hope she enjoys spending her vouchers with us. We also want to congratulate all of the other children who took part and we are very much looking forward to awarding them with their certificates.”

Our final activity took place on Thursday 7th April, when we had two face painters and a balloon modeller in the Centre.

All activities took place in the Kids Club area, located on the Upper Mall of Spindles, between Peacocks and Supercuts.

Town Square’s 35th Birthday

On Saturday 19th March, Town Square celebrated it’s 35th birthday!

Presentations were made to two individuals who have worked in the Centre since it’s opening day in 1981!

There was also a cake which, once cut, lasted about 10 minutes!

Mike Flanagan, Centre Manager, said “It’s great to see Town Square continuing to thrive after 35 years. There have obviously been so many changes over the years but the Centre continues to evolve with the times, offering a great variety of stores. The Centre still has a community feel about it and, along with the Spindles, which was added in 1993, offers a great place to both shop and socialize. It’s also great to be able to acknowledge and reward the 2 people who have worked in the Centre since the first day it opened – Suzanne from Boots and Eric from the Centre itself. They have certainly seen some major changes but continue to enjoy working in the Centre!”
